Virginia's first earache and Mommy's first overnight away, Grandparents Visit, First Mother's Day and Porch Update - Whew!

My goodness it has been a long time since I've posted - we've got a lot of catching up to do! :) First, Virginia has made it through her first illness and is doing so much better. She had a little cold (stuffy nose, little cough, low grade fever) and it seemed to be dragging on and on, so I took her in to see Dr. Anderson. She had never really been too fussy, and continued to sleep through the night, she just wasn't quite herself and I just wanted some reassurance that she didn't have an earache - she hadn't shown any symptoms other than a couple of times she didn't drink her entire bottle in one sitting like she normally does. Well, lo and behold, my baby did have a slight infection in her right ear so Dr. Anderson put her on some ammoxicillin and in a few days she started acting like her same old jolly self again! She really didn't mind taking her medicine either - it was bubble gum flavored. :)
Last Thursday (no longer "last Thursday" at this point - I've had this post in "draftmode" for that long!) I spent my first night, overnight, away from Virginia. I was stressed about it in the beginning, but now I realize I didn't have anything to be worried about. Her daddy is totally competent! I came back early Friday morning and picked up Virginia around 10:30 to spend the day together. I LOVE the 3 day weekends - Virginia and I get spoiled with how much time we get to spend together. I try to take a day off at least every other week now. Jim's parents came up for a visit the next day, Saturday. It had been a while since they saw V and they were surprised with how much she had grown and developed. Grandma McMellon had just returned from a visit to her native England and she had some really cool gifts for Virginia. She brought her a collectible double decker bus and she had been to Hamley's, a large toy store in London, and had made a CD for her with songs personalized with Virginia's name. Pretty neat! I'm attaching some pics of their visit.

The next day was my first Mother's Day and of course Daddy made it memorable. He made me breakfast that day and it was rather dreary outside so we just enjoyed taking it east for most of the day. Later that afternoon we decided to go to Target and purchase the furniture for our screened in porch. Oddly enough, it had been on sale for weeks online at 15% off, but of course about the time we were ready to buy it the sale ended. Well when we were going through the paper on Mother's Day we found where it had gone back on sale - so that was our hint that it was meant to be and we'd better go snatch it up while we could! Of course, we didn't really think about how much furniture we were buying when we left the house (a sofa, loveseat, motion chair, club chair and ottoman, coffee table, accent table, nesting tables, and a lamp!) and didn't think about the fact that we were going to need a Uhaul to get it all back to our house! So here we are with literally a room full of furniture and no way to get it home. Thankfully my brother lives even closer to Target than we do and he was gracious enough to help us out. Now we have a living room full of furniture in boxes - and Jim said we didn't need a formal living room! ha I just can't wait until they finish the porch and we are able to get it all out there where it belongs. I'm really ready to take a nap out there before it gets too hot to do so. What am I talking about?!? That is a dream huh? Everyone knows Mommies don't get naps!!

Anyway, that brings to me to the porch - it is coming along nicely. Jim is in the middle of staining now. He chose a pretty color that goes great with the furniture, only when we picked out the tile we matched it up with the color of the house rather than the furniture or the stain....so...now we have 240 sq ft of tile sitting in our living room that needs to be returned. Ikes! Poor Jim - that tile is HEAVY and was quite a pain to get in the house. :( Thank goodness he agreed with me that it looks terrible with the stain and furniture (actually he said he had thought that before I mentioned it, but that he just dreaded the thought of returning it all too!).
